Open Gate Italia and Italgas to support the agricultural sector

Date:

Syracuse, 25 September. (askanews) – Environmental change and decarbonization are fundamental concepts for addressing the challenges associated with climate change and creating a sustainable future. As part of the Divinazione Expo di Siracusa, the event titled “Decarbonization and Agriculture” organized by Open Gate Italia in collaboration with Italgas was held at the Elio Vittorini Hall in the Municipality of Syracuse – Palazzo Vermexio. We spoke with Lorenzo Romeo, Italgas Corporate Strategy Director: “With Italgas we have launched a series of initiatives that, on the one hand, see us in collaboration with key associations such as Coldretti or the Italian Biogas Federation to develop this resource. In our role as gas distributors of this energy vector, we are very focused on the circulation and modernization of networks. Active, this new resource, biomethane, represents a green, sustainable gas with a zero carbon footprint. Various topics are addressed, from strategies to reduce the environmental impact of the agricultural sector to making the current economic and social model more sustainable. Decarbonization is an essential component of ecological change. That is why it is necessary to take shared paths to adopt technologies like biogas and agrivoltaics and implement environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Pietro Gattoni, president of the CIB Consorzio Italiano Biogas, then intervened: “Biomethane was part of this path because it demonstrated how important it is to produce renewable energy in agriculture, such as electricity, but it is also important that bioenergy is a factor that increases the innovative capacity of the agricultural enterprise, therefore its Increases competitiveness but also increases its path of sustainability. Finally we spoke to Elvio Bonollo, external relations manager of Distillery Bonollo Umberto Spa: “We are here to testify to our experience in terms of the contribution of consumption decarbonization as a result of the inauguration of the biomethane production plant in April last year. It allows biomethane to be obtained via anaerobic digestion, starting from liquid residues in distillation processes. Sustainability in agriculture is essential to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future. Therefore, the collective commitment of governments, sector organizations and beyond representing the entire supply chain is fundamental, and of no small importance is the moral and social commitment of every citizen who can do their part for the good of the planet.
