Under the command of billionaire Jared Isaacson, the mission was piloted by Cade Poteet and mission specialists Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, both of SpaceX.
The ditching occurred regularly shortly after 9:30 a.m. in Italy, when it was still dark in the United States.
